KryBit ransomware

KryBit is an affiliate-run extortion programme active since early 2026. Encrypted files gain the uppercase suffix .KRYBIT (for example report.pdf.KRYBIT ), and every affected folder receives a text file named RECOVER-README.txt that opens with the KRYBIT banner and sends the victim to a Tor chat portal with a personal login ID. The group hits businesses across many sectors and countries, with builds for Windows, Linux, VMware ESXi and NAS devices. Its note claims that employee records, credentials and financial files were copied before encryption, and victims who refuse to negotiate are listed on a Tor leak blog. The Windows encryptor is built on the leaked Babuk source code, but it uses its own keys.

File extensions: .KRYBIT

Ransom note filenames: RECOVER-README.txt

Decryptor: No public decryptor was found. Checked 2026-10-14.
